Persistent oversupply from elevated U.S. laying flocks after post-avian influenza rebuilding continues to anchor trader sentiment for the August BLS average retail price of Grade A large eggs, with market-implied odds heavily concentrated in the $2.10–$2.30 range. July data printed at $2.19 per dozen, down sharply year-over-year, while wholesale benchmarks remain depressed near 36–42 cents amid production exceeding demand absorption. Recent American Egg Board assessments note flock sizes of 340–345 million and monthly output near 20.2 million cases, with supply expected to stay elevated through year-end even as retail demand holds steady. This dynamic, rather than acute disease or feed-cost shocks, underpins the current pricing consensus ahead of the scheduled September data release.
