Recent U.S. retail egg prices averaged $2.27 per dozen in August 2026 per BLS data, with wholesale benchmarks at just 35.6 cents per dozen loose as of mid-September amid flock expansion and limited avian influenza culls. This oversupply dynamic—driven by record laying rates and prior rebuilding—has compressed margins while retail figures show stickiness from contracts and distribution costs. With the two leading bins ($2.20–$2.30 at 37% and $2.10–$2.20 at 34%) closely matched, traders appear focused on whether September’s city-average reading will hold near recent levels or edge lower on sustained wholesale weakness, absent fresh supply shocks or input-cost spikes in corn and soybean meal.
