Recent July ISM Services PMI data at 54.1, just below consensus expectations and little changed from June, anchors trader focus on the 53.0–54.9 ranges that together command nearly half the market-implied probability for the August release. Persistent services-sector expansion above 50 for over two years, supported by stronger business activity and new orders alongside the FIFA World Cup lift, competes with renewed employment contraction and elevated prices paid amid tariff and energy-cost pressures. This balance of resilient demand against labor-market softening and input inflation creates tight clustering, with outcomes hinging on August employment, supplier deliveries, and prices subindexes. The September 3 release will test whether the 54-ish level holds or shifts amid broader labor and inflation data.
