The closed primary among Parti Socialiste, Place publique, and Gauche républicaine et socialiste members features a fragmented field of declared candidates including frontrunner Raphaël Glucksmann, party first secretary Olivier Faure, Philippe Brun, Jérôme Guedj, Ségolène Royal, and Emmanuel Maurel, with formal parrainage requirements closing mid-September. Recent internal consultations rejected an open primary format, tightening the electorate and heightening competition while electronic voting adds procedural variables. Trader consensus at roughly even odds on an outright first-round majority reflects uncertainty over vote consolidation behind one contender versus persistent fragmentation ahead of the October 9-10 ballot.
