**Marine layer dynamics and seasonal weakening of coastal upwelling position 70–73°F as the dominant range for San Francisco’s September 17 high.** The city’s proximity to the cold California Current and typical marine layer thickness of 300–800 feet limit afternoon warming, especially in lower-elevation districts, while September’s reduced North Pacific High strength and moderating Central Valley temperatures allow more sunshine and slightly higher readings than peak summer. Official model guidance and recent climatological data show typical highs near 70–71°F, with traders assigning 46% implied probability to that bin and 34.5% to 72–73°F. Any late-day clearing or lighter onshore flow could push readings toward the upper end of the favored outcomes before the marine layer reasserts overnight.
