Slovenia's March 2026 parliamentary elections produced a fragmented National Assembly, with Robert Golob's Freedom Movement edging Janez Janša's Slovenian Democratic Party by a single seat yet failing to secure coalition support. This outcome shifted momentum toward Janša, who is now advancing coalition talks with smaller centre-right parties after procedural amendments reduced ministry numbers and clarified nomination rules. Trader consensus reflects the arithmetic advantage and ongoing negotiations that position Janša for confirmation by simple majority. Remaining variables include final partner commitments, potential parliamentary setbacks, or renewed talks if a government vote fails, any of which could reopen pathways for alternative candidates within the 30-day window.
