Lula da Silva maintains overwhelming trader consensus for first place in Bahia’s October 4 first-round presidential vote, reflecting the state’s consistent alignment with the Workers’ Party and the incumbent’s established regional support base. Recent national polls show Lula capturing 38–42 percent overall, with notably stronger margins in northeastern states including Bahia, where one survey placed him at 55 percent versus 22 percent for main challenger Flávio Bolsonaro in a runoff scenario. Bahia’s electorate has historically favored PT candidates through social program legacies and local alliances, while the fragmented opposition field—featuring lower-polling names such as Ronaldo Caiado, Romeu Zema, and Renan Santos—limits consolidation behind any single alternative. The campaign’s formal start on August 16 has not altered this dynamic. A late regional scandal, sharp economic deterioration, or unexpected consolidation among right-leaning candidates could narrow the gap, though such shifts remain low-probability given current polling patterns and structural voter preferences.
