Recent National Weather Service guidance highlights increasing onshore flow and redevelopment of the marine layer ahead of September 1, producing cooler-than-normal conditions after an early heat wave. Model consensus points to sunny skies with daytime maxima in the low-to-mid 80s inland and upper 70s near the coast, consistent with historical early-September averages near 77°F but tempered by the post-trough pattern. The tight spread between 76–77°F and 78–79°F outcomes reflects uncertainty in exact marine-layer depth, local wind patterns, and whether the downtown or airport thermometer captures the daily peak. Minor model differences in subsidence strength or residual subtropical moisture could shift the high by a degree or two, keeping both bins competitive until final observations.
