Prime Minister Robert Abela's Labour Party commands trader consensus at 92% implied probability of winning Malta's snap general election on May 30, driven by recent opinion polls showing a widening lead over the Nationalist Party—up to 29,000 votes in the latest surveys, from a narrower 7,500-vote edge in March. Abela called the early vote on April 27 amid geopolitical tensions, including Middle East-driven energy costs and inflation fears, positioning Labour's strong economy and fully costed promises as key strengths under Malta's proportional representation system. While the Nationalist Party pushes youth-focused proposals, an upset would require a late scandal, major gaffe, or unexpected turnout surge among undecided voters in the final two weeks of campaigning.
