**Trader consensus on turnout rising above the 2021 benchmark of 70.8% remains narrowly balanced at 53% for "Up," reflecting competing mobilization pressures ahead of the September 20 Landtag election.** Strong AfD polling near 36% alongside SPD recovery to around 29% has heightened partisan engagement, with both camps emphasizing turnout drives amid coalition uncertainty and the five-percent threshold risks for smaller parties like the Greens. Recent state elections elsewhere in Germany showed turnout gains tied to polarized contests, supporting expectations of increased participation here. Offsetting factors include the non-federal timing, seasonal voter patterns in a rural eastern state, and the absence of simultaneous national contests that boosted 2021 participation by nearly nine points. Late-campaign events, such as intensified AfD or SPD mobilization, surprise scandals, or clearer coalition signals, could shift probabilities by altering perceived stakes for core voter bases.
