The Fed's unanimous September 2026 rate hike to a 3.75-4% target range, its first since 2023, combined with the hawkish Summary of Economic Projections, underpins the 83.5% market-implied probability of another increase this year. Sixteen of 18 officials projected at least one more 25-basis-point move by year-end, citing resilient GDP growth near 2.3%, a low 4.1% unemployment rate, and persistently elevated PCE inflation at 3.7% with upside risks from geopolitical factors. This shifts the policy path higher for longer relative to prior guidance, though the committee sees rates holding steady into 2027. Key near-term catalysts include October and December FOMC meetings plus upcoming CPI and employment data that could reinforce or temper tightening expectations.
