The Central Bank of Brazil’s (BCB) Copom has pursued a measured easing cycle, cutting the Selic rate by 25 basis points to 14.00% at its August 5 meeting amid headline inflation easing yet remaining above the 3% target, with 2026 Focus survey expectations near 5.0%. Resilient domestic activity, a tight labor market, and core inflation near the upper tolerance band have supported continued gradual reductions while inflation risks stay skewed upward due to Middle East geopolitical pressures on energy prices. Recent data improvements have reinforced trader consensus around another 25-basis-point cut in September at 83% implied probability, versus a 15% chance of no change, as the BCB remains explicitly data-dependent ahead of the next policy decision with limited forward guidance provided.

Increases or decreases of less than 25 bps will be rounded to 25 bps (e.g. an increase or decrease of 10 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 25 bps). Increases or decreases of greater than 25 bps will be rounded to the nearest 25 bps and will be rounded away from 0 in cases of equidistance (e.g., an increase or decrease of 37.5 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 50 bps). Displayed options of “Increase” or “Decrease” will include policy rate increases or decreases of any size.
If the specified meeting is postponed to a date and time before the start of the next scheduled meeting, this market will resolve based on the outcome of that postponed meeting.
