**Record retirements among House Republicans have positioned the 36–39 range as the clear market leader.** As of mid-August 2026, 37 Republican incumbents have announced they will not seek re-election, part of a total 60 House departures that ranks among the highest in decades. Drivers include members pursuing Senate or gubernatorial bids, redistricting impacts in states like California, institutional frustrations amid a narrow majority, and personal or political considerations. Trader consensus reflected in the 82.7% probability on 36–39 captures the current pace of announcements, with limited additional exits expected before filing deadlines. Outcomes in the 40+ or lower brackets carry lower implied probability given the trajectory and historical patterns for mid-cycle decisions.
