Wang Mei-hui, the Democratic Progressive Party nominee and sitting legislator, holds the strongest position in the Chiayi City mayoral race due to party organizational strength and voter familiarity ahead of the November 28, 2026 local elections. An April 2026 joint KMT-TPP primary selected Taiwan People's Party candidate Chang Chi-kai as the unified opposition contender after he outperformed the KMT's initial nominee, Weng Shou-liang, prompting the KMT to forgo a separate run. A May 2026 TVBS poll showed Wang leading Chang by six points at 43 percent support, with Chang faring better among younger voters. Independent entrants such as Huang Hung-cheng and Chen Kai-huang further fragment the field. These alignments and polling trends underpin the current trader consensus reflected in market pricing, though the race remains subject to standard campaign dynamics and turnout variations in the final months.
