Incumbent Democrat John Garamendi advanced from California's June 2026 top-two primary for the 8th congressional district with roughly 54 percent of the vote against Republican Rudy Recile, setting up a November general election. The district's strong Democratic tilt, reflected in its Cook Partisan Voting Index of D+24 and consistent voter patterns in recent cycles, underpins the current trader consensus favoring the Democratic nominee at 94.5 percent. Garamendi's long tenure and primary margin highlight limited crossover appeal for the Republican challenger in this Bay Area and Central Valley region. Late developments such as candidate health issues, major scandals, or unexpected national political shifts could still alter outcomes before election day, though such factors have not emerged in the primary results or recent reporting.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
