Édouard Philippe holds a commanding lead in trader consensus for the 2027 French presidential race matchup against Gabriel Attal due to his consistent edge in centrist polling and broader appeal among right-leaning and Macron-era voters. Recent surveys place Philippe ahead within the fragmented center bloc, often in the mid-teens to low twenties when both candidates run, while Attal trails despite gains. Philippe benefits from his record as a former prime minister, established party infrastructure via Horizons, and outreach efforts toward broader right-center coalitions. Attal, positioning as a renewal figure with stronger pro-European integration proposals including joint debt and a two-speed EU framework, has not yet narrowed the gap amid personal rivalries and stalled unity talks. Persistent divisions in the centrist space, amid strong showings by National Rally and La France Insoumise candidates, further shape assessments of their relative prospects in a two-round system.
