Recent July CPI data showing a modest 0.1% monthly headline gain and 0.2% core increase, with the annual rate easing to 3.4%, has shaped expectations for a contained August reading amid easing energy prices and moderating shelter costs. Persistent upside risks from tariff pass-through, fiscal stimulus effects, and labor market tightness support trader positioning around the 0.3% outcome, while the closely matched probabilities for 0.4% reflect uncertainty over whether cooling trends will hold or reverse in the next release. Market-implied odds aggregate real-capital bets on these dynamics ahead of the mid-September data print, with volatility measures and Treasury yields providing additional context for shifts in the rate path.
