Republican incumbent Tom Kean Jr. faces Democratic nominee Rebecca Bennett in the 2026 general election for New Jersey’s 7th congressional district, a competitive seat with a narrow partisan lean. Bennett secured the Democratic nomination decisively in the June primary after endorsements from most county parties and strong polling against Kean. Kean’s extended 117-day absence from Congress due to a diagnosed health condition drew significant attention and criticism during the campaign, contributing to his vulnerability. A May poll showed Bennett ahead 47-43 among likely voters. Nonpartisan ratings classify the race as a toss-up or lean Democratic, reflecting the district’s swing character and midterm dynamics that often favor the opposition party. Trader consensus at these levels aligns with Bennett’s momentum and the incumbent’s challenges heading into November.
