**Polarization around the AfD's sustained 41% polling lead ahead of the September 6 election has created competing mobilization dynamics that leave turnout expectations nearly balanced.** Widespread dissatisfaction with the incumbent CDU-led coalition, economic pressures, and debates over migration and energy policy are driving higher engagement on both sides, with the AfD emphasizing street-level and social media outreach while other parties stress the consequences of potential shifts in government formation. Historical precedent from 2021 (60.3% turnout) and the state's relatively small electorate add uncertainty, as late-campaign intensity, any national spillover effects, or procedural factors like expanded mail voting could push participation either above or below that benchmark. Traders price the outcome near even odds because no single catalyst has yet tipped the balance decisively.
