Recent July 2026 CPI data at 3.4% year-over-year, down from 3.5% in June and in line with expectations, combined with Cleveland Fed nowcasts holding August 2026 at 3.42%, anchors trader consensus around the 3.3–3.4% outcomes that together command over 57% implied probability. Cooling energy prices from the fading Iran-related shock, alongside modest shelter and food contributions, support the narrow range while core services trends and any monthly rebound in goods prices remain key swing variables. With forecasts clustered near 3.4% ahead of the September 11 release, market-implied odds reflect tight uncertainty over small deviations in core CPI momentum and seasonal adjustments rather than a decisive directional shift.
