The absence of additional diplomatic recognition for Somaliland since Israel's December 2025 move stems from coordinated opposition by the African Union, Somalia, and key regional actors who continue to emphasize territorial integrity and oppose any precedent for secession in the Horn of Africa. Somalia's federal government has rejected further steps outright, while the United Arab Emirates' reported May 2026 outreach to potential partners including Eswatini, Argentina, Zambia, and the Dominican Republic has produced no confirmed outcomes to date. With only weeks remaining until the June 30 deadline, traders see limited scope for rapid bilateral breakthroughs amid multilateral pressure and the absence of broader endorsements from major powers or the United Nations.
