Global seismic activity recorded by the USGS shows five confirmed magnitude 7.0 or greater earthquakes through mid-May 2026, clustered along subduction zones of the Pacific Ring of Fire in Tonga, Vanuatu, Indonesia, and Japan. This pace aligns closely with the long-term annual average of roughly 16 such events worldwide, supporting trader consensus that the total will reach eight or more by the June 30 resolution date. A multi-week lull with no additional detections since late April introduces short-term uncertainty, yet the inherent clustering typical of large earthquakes and ongoing monitoring of major fault systems suggest renewed activity remains likely within the remaining six-week window.
