Recent U.S. inflation data and labor market readings have positioned a 0.3% month-over-month CPI print as the highest-probability outcome for August 2026, with trader-implied odds at 61.5%. Core goods deflation and moderating shelter costs continue to offset sticky services prices, while energy volatility from recent crude benchmarks remains a key swing factor. The latest employment report and retail sales figures reinforced expectations for gradual disinflation ahead of the September FOMC meeting, keeping the market-implied path for the federal funds rate stable. Elevated uncertainty around tariff impacts and supply-chain normalization keeps smaller tails such as 0.2% or 0.4% in play but secondary to the consensus range.
