OpenAI paused new sign-ups and upgrades to its $200 ChatGPT Pro 20x tier on September 10, 2026, after GPT-6 Astra's launch on September 3 triggered unprecedented demand that strained compute resources. The 20x usage tier places the heaviest load on infrastructure, prompting the targeted pause while the $100 Pro, Plus, Go, and API tiers remain open. Product lead Thibault Sottiaux noted the company is adding capacity rapidly but gave no resumption timeline, consistent with prior infrastructure-driven freezes during model rollouts. Traders are watching for announcements on expanded GPU availability or usage optimizations that could enable US resumption, as Astra's advanced reasoning and agent capabilities continue driving adoption across competing frontier models.

This market will resolve to "Yes" if OpenAI resumes new subscriptions to the ChatGPT Pro 20x plan for US customers by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".
Subscriptions will be considered resumed when that plan is again generally available for purchase by new subscribers in the United States through the company's official channels. The availability of any other plan, including the ChatGPT Pro or Pro 5x plans, will not qualify. Resumption of upgrades for existing ChatGPT subscribers without new sign-ups will not qualify.
A qualifying plan must be the called "Pro 20x" or otherwise confirmed to be the same plan as the ChatGPT Pro 20x Plan by a consensus of credible reporting.
Private access limited to selected users or groups of users, a waitlist, or an invitation will not qualify. A change to the plan's name or price will not affect resolution, provided it remains OpenAI's highest-usage ChatGPT Pro tier. Unavailability in particular states resulting from legal or regulatory requirements will not prevent a "Yes" resolution.
The primary resolution source for this market will be OpenAI's official purchasing channels; however, official communications from the company's representatives or a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
