Presidential elections are currently scheduled to be held in The Gambia on December 5, 2026. This market will resolve according to the listed candidate who wins the 2026 Gambian presidential election. Any interim or caretaker President will not qualify. If the results are not known definitively by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the results of this election, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve solely based on official results as reported by the Independent Electoral Commission of The Gambia (https://www.iec.gm/).Adama Barrow’s position as the clear frontrunner in the December 5, 2026, Gambian presidential election stems from his incumbency, National People’s Party infrastructure, and polling leads that place him ahead of rivals by double-digit margins. Recent surveys, including one by Gambia Participates, showed him at 51 percent support compared with Ousainou Darboe’s 23 percent, reflecting voter preference for continuity amid modest economic growth and infrastructure projects. Darboe, the United Democratic Party flagbearer, remains the principal opposition contender but faces headwinds from coalition-building setbacks and regional weaknesses. Lower-probability names such as Essa Faal, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, Bakary K. Badjie, and Mama Kandeh trail due to narrower bases and limited national momentum. A September electricity crisis triggered protests and a government emergency declaration, yet Barrow’s pledges for new generation capacity have so far contained broader damage to his standing. Traders price the fragmented opposition and first-past-the-post system as reinforcing the incumbent’s advantage three months before voting.
