Recent July ISM Manufacturing PMI data at 55.6—the strongest since May 2022—has anchored trader sentiment for the August release, with broad gains in production, new orders, and employment returning to expansion. Persistent price pressures near 71, driven by tariffs, metals, and energy costs amid geopolitical tensions, alongside AI-related demand and low customer inventories, support momentum while capping upside. With August data due September 1, closely matched probabilities around the mid-55 to upper-55 range reflect uncertainty over whether the July acceleration sustains or moderates, as traders weigh labor market signals and input cost trajectories against historical base rates for post-surge readings.
