General elections are scheduled to be held in Malta on May 30, 2026. This market will resolve to the individual who is formally appointed as Prime Minister of Malta following the 2026 Maltese general election. To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed as Prime Minister of Malta following the 2026 Maltese general election. Any interim or caretaker head of government will not count toward the resolution of this market. If no such Prime Minister is appointed by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Malta; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.Incumbent Prime Minister Robert Abela holds a commanding position in the market for Malta's next prime minister ahead of the May 30 general election, reflecting Labour's sustained parliamentary majority, recent polling leads of several points, and the momentum from his April 27 snap election call amid energy cost pressures tied to regional tensions. The party has emphasized economic resilience and low unemployment in its manifesto while securing broad candidate nominations across districts. Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg, contesting as the main challenger with a focus on policy change and fixed terms, faces structural headwinds in Malta's proportional representation system despite recent party candidate approvals. Realistic shifts could occur through unexpected voter swings on inflation, late campaign developments, or stronger performance by smaller parties in key districts, though historical patterns favor the incumbent's continuity.
