Virginia Democrats advanced a constitutional amendment and new congressional map through the legislature and April 2026 referendum to enable mid-decade redistricting ahead of the midterms, projecting a shift from the current 6-5 split to a 10-1 Democratic advantage. However, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled on May 8 that procedural violations invalidated the amendment, leaving the 2021 districts in place. The U.S. Supreme Court subsequently denied an emergency appeal to restore the map, and Governor Abigail Spanberger confirmed that the May 12 deadline for changes means the existing boundaries will govern the 2026 elections. This legal sequence accounts for the market's strong consensus against a new map. Late-stage federal intervention or an unforeseen procedural reversal remain the only realistic paths that could still alter the outcome before ballots are finalized.

This market will resolve to “Yes” if the revised congressional district map drawn in HB 29 are used to define the congressional districts of Virginia in the 2026 U.S. House of Representatives midterm elections scheduled for November 3, 2026. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”.
The release of official election materials from the State of Virginia, or an overwhelming consensus of credible reporting, demonstrating that the revised congressional district map drawn in HB 29 definitively will or will not be used to define the congressional districts of Virginia in the 2026 U.S. House of Representatives midterm elections will be sufficient to resolve this market.
The primary resolution sources for this market are official information from the State of Virginia and a consensus of credible reporting.
