Recent court rulings have solidified expectations that former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol will remain in custody through at least the end of 2026. In February 2026 a Seoul district court sentenced him to life imprisonment after convicting him of leading an insurrection tied to his December 2024 martial-law declaration. An appeals court followed in late April by raising a separate obstruction-of-justice term to seven years. Yoon has been detained since July 2025 while facing eight ongoing trials, and standard South Korean appellate timelines plus the absence of any presidential pardon or release mechanism make early release improbable. Traders therefore assign only a low implied probability to his release before December 31, 2026.

If Yoon is released but remains under house arrest, the market will still resolve to "Yes".
If Yoon is released on parole, bond, or any other condition that results in them leaving state custody, the market will resolve to "Yes".
Transporting Yoon to another location of custody (e.g., a different prison, court, or hospital within the correctional system) will not suffice to resolve this market to "Yes".
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from government authorities or corrections departments; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
