Recent nominations and campaign launches have intensified competition in Rio Grande do Sul ahead of the October 4 first round, with right-leaning contenders including Renan Santos of the Missão party, Pablo Marçal, Ronaldo Caiado, Romeu Zema, and Flávio Bolsonaro drawing support from overlapping voter bases amid ongoing national polarization between incumbent Lula and the Liberal Party ticket. Santos has publicly challenged Bolsonaro over party affiliation processes and positioned himself as an alternative focused on fiscal restraint and anti-corruption measures, while state-level concerns such as infrastructure and public security further fragment preferences. National polls reflect a split field with no candidate exceeding low-to-mid 40s percent, keeping implied probabilities for first place in the state tightly contested and sensitive to upcoming regional debates or shifts in turnout among key demographics.
