The open seat in Richmond has produced a closely contested race ahead of the October 5 Quebec general election, with recent candidate announcements in June fueling uncertainty among traders. Guillaume Rousseau (CAQ), a law professor and laïcité advocate, faces Bernard Sévigny (PQ), former Sherbrooke mayor, Hugo Fontaine (PLQ), a journalist, David Poulin-Latulippe (QS), and Dominic Bouffard (PCQ). Late August projections show narrow vote shares across CAQ, PLQ, and PQ, reflecting the riding's shift from prior CAQ dominance and the fragmented preferences of local voters on issues like provincial autonomy and regional priorities. The balanced odds capture this multi-party dynamic, where modest shifts in turnout or late campaign momentum among the leading contenders could determine the winner.
