Ricardo Samaniego, the Democratic incumbent seeking a third term as El Paso County Judge, holds a commanding lead in trader pricing ahead of the November 3, 2026 general election. He advanced unopposed through the March Democratic primary in a county with strong Democratic voter registration and consistent support for party candidates in local races. The Republican nominee, Minerva Torres Shelton, a retired FBI agent and former police officer who won her primary, faces the typical structural barriers for challengers in this jurisdiction. Samaniego’s prior 2022 victory by a wide margin and lack of reported controversies have reinforced the market’s assessment of low risk to the incumbent. Late developments such as a major scandal, health event, or unusual turnout shift could still alter the outcome before election day.
