Denny Tamaki, the incumbent independent governor seeking a third term, leads the Okinawa gubernatorial election market at 66.5% implied probability ahead of the September 13, 2026 vote, while LDP-aligned challenger Genta Koja sits at 27.5% and other named candidates trail far behind. Tamaki’s positioning reflects his established coalition backing and repeated victories on opposition to U.S. base relocation issues, tempered by reported erosion in support following the February 2026 national election losses for his All Okinawa alignment. Recent candidate announcements and party endorsements, including potential LDP coordination, have consolidated opposition options but not yet closed the gap in trader assessments. The one-month timeline to election day leaves room for shifts driven by campaign momentum, turnout patterns in key municipalities, or further coalition realignments.
