South Africa's annual inflation for 2026 has seen trader consensus cluster tightly around 4.1-4.7%, reflecting the South African Reserve Bank's May 2026 forecast of a 4.4% average alongside June's 5.0% year-over-year print—the highest since 2024—driven by a 34.3% surge in fuel prices amid global energy shocks. Core inflation reached 4.1%, signaling broader pressures from housing, utilities, and services, while food costs remained subdued. Upcoming July CPI data, due shortly, and potential rand volatility or oil price shifts represent key swing factors that could tilt the full-year average within or outside the current 4.4% SARB baseline, consistent with the market-implied odds.
