The open seat in Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District, created by Representative Julia Letlow’s decision to pursue a U.S. Senate bid, has attracted a crowded Republican field featuring state legislators and a Trump endorsement for candidate Blake Miguez. A Supreme Court ruling on the state’s congressional map suspended the scheduled May primaries and shifted the contest to a single November open primary, allowing GOP candidates to consolidate support in the rural, conservative district. Democratic candidates remain limited in visibility and resources, leaving the Republican nominee positioned to advance with minimal opposition. Trader consensus reflects the district’s established partisan lean and the structural advantages held by the leading party ahead of the November ballot.
