Democratic challenger Paige Cognetti holds a clear edge in trader consensus for Pennsylvania’s 8th congressional district, reflecting the seat’s status as a competitive battleground that Republicans flipped by a narrow margin in 2024. Cognetti, the former Scranton mayor with prior federal and state oversight experience, benefits from strong name recognition in the northeastern Pennsylvania district and fundraising advantages typical of Democratic challengers in such races. Incumbent Republican Rob Bresnahan faces sustained attacks over stock-trading practices, a line of criticism that has resonated in polling and campaign messaging since the May 2026 primaries. National midterm dynamics and the district’s recent swing voting patterns further shape positioning, though the race remains sensitive to turnout, economic conditions, and any late-cycle developments before November.
