China’s September consumer price index reading faces a tight contest among mid-range brackets because August data showed a rebound to 0.8% year-on-year, driven by faster non-food and transport costs amid higher global energy and commodity prices, while food deflation persisted. Traders weigh whether these cost-push pressures and base effects will sustain or ease in September, with core inflation firming modestly and producer prices also accelerating. Weak domestic demand, soft consumption, and seasonal factors could cap the print, keeping 0.7–0.8% and 0.9–1.0% brackets nearly even. Any fresh signals on oil prices, policy support, or monthly price momentum before the mid-October release could shift positioning among the clustered outcomes.
