Argentina's monthly inflation data for August 2026 remains closely contested between the 1.5-1.7% and 1.8-2.0% brackets amid ongoing disinflation. July's 2.1% month-over-month reading—slightly above consensus—marked a reversal after three consecutive sub-2% prints, driven partly by seasonal winter holiday effects and residual price pressures despite the peso's relative stability. Traders are weighing the central bank's latest survey showing year-end 2026 inflation expectations at 29.8% against persistent fiscal tightening and monetary restraint under President Milei, which have compressed the annualized pace from prior peaks. Key swing factors include any August utility tariff adjustments, wage settlements, or exchange-rate volatility that could shift the trajectory before the September INDEC release.
