Recent July CPI data at 3.4% year-over-year, down from 3.5% in June and aligning with consensus, anchors trader sentiment for the August annual inflation release. Favorable base effects and contained core readings around 2.5% support the market's heaviest weighting on 3.3–3.4% outcomes, with Cleveland Fed nowcasts pointing to roughly 3.36%. Persistent shelter costs and modest services rebounds limit downside, while energy volatility tied to geopolitical developments and tariff pass-through introduce modest upside risks. The September 11 release remains the key near-term catalyst, as traders price in gradual disinflation absent major shocks to goods or labor-market data.
