Recent July CPI data showing a modest 0.1% monthly rise—following June’s -0.4% drop—has anchored trader expectations for August around the closely contested 0.3% and 0.4% outcomes. Cooling energy prices, including a 2.9% gasoline decline, and easing shelter costs support the lower reading, while stable food prices and a 0.2% core advance point to potential rebound momentum. With the next CPI release on September 11 and the September FOMC meeting approaching, market-implied odds reflect uncertainty over whether the disinflation trend persists or broadens amid still-elevated 3.4% year-over-year headline inflation.
