In the 2026 Brazilian presidential race, the first-round contest in Maranhão remains highly uncertain with no candidate establishing a clear edge in trader assessments. The state's large electorate in the Northeast, where the Workers' Party has historically drawn strong support, faces a crowded field including incumbent President Lula, Flávio Bolsonaro, Ronaldo Caiado, Romeu Zema, and others who registered ahead of the August 15 deadline. Recent national polling shows Lula ahead overall but with Flávio Bolsonaro closing gaps, while state-specific data remains limited and regional economic pressures plus turnout patterns among key voting blocs add volatility. The official campaign period, running through early October, and any late shifts in alliances or endorsements could quickly alter vote shares and create separation among contenders.
