The open mayoral seat in Richmond, BC, following Malcolm Brodie’s decision not to seek re-election after 25 years has produced a crowded field ahead of the October 17, 2026 vote, with no candidate consolidating broad support. Recent polling shows Kash Heed ahead but with roughly half of voters undecided, while a mid-August debate among Alexa Loo, Heed, Sheldon Starrett, and Henry Yao highlighted divides on infrastructure, dike upgrades, the night market’s future, and public safety measures. Different candidate slates and low historical turnout in local contests have kept the race fragmented, sustaining tight implied probabilities as traders weigh name recognition against the impact of remaining undecided blocs and scheduled campaign events through September.
