This market will resolve to the temperature range that contains the highest temperature recorded by the Hong Kong Observatory in degrees Celsius on 23 Aug '26. The resolution source for this market will be information from the Hong Kong Observatory, specifically the "Absolute Daily Max (deg. C)" the specified date once information is finalized in the relevant "Daily Extract", available here: https://www.weather.gov.hk/en/cis/climat.htm This market can not resolve until data for this date has been published. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures in Celsius to one decimal place (eg, 9.1°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Any revisions to temperatures recorded after data is initially published for this market's timeframe will not be considered for this market's resolution.**A broad low-pressure trough over the South China coast is sustaining unsettled monsoon-like conditions into August 23, with southwest winds of force 3–4, high relative humidity (70–95%), and scattered showers plus isolated thunderstorms expected mainly later in the day.** Official Hong Kong Observatory guidance centers the maximum air temperature at 32 °C (range 27–32 °C), while numerical guidance and ensemble outputs cluster between 30–32 °C depending on the exact timing and coverage of convective clouds. Persistent cloud cover and showers reduce surface insolation and evaporative cooling, capping afternoon peaks; any delay or reduction in rainfall allows brief bright periods that can push readings to 32 °C at urban or sheltered stations. Sea-surface temperatures near 27 °C and soil temperatures around 30 °C supply a warm baseline, while light winds limit mixing. These factors produce a narrow distribution centered on 31–32 °C, explaining the closely matched market probabilities and the modest edge to 31 °C as traders weigh the likelihood of afternoon convection suppressing the daily maximum. Updated model runs and the next HKO briefing remain the key near-term catalysts.
