Incumbent Rep. Mike Thompson (D) leads the field for California's 4th Congressional District top-two primary on June 2, supported by his 28-year tenure, California Democratic Party endorsement, and over $2.9 million raised as of late March, positioning him to secure one advancement spot in the safe Democratic seat (Cook PVI D+8). Democratic challenger Eric Jones, backed by Our Revolution and leading receipts at $3.2 million, emerges as the top threat for second place amid a fragmented Republican field of six candidates with minimal fundraising. Recent newspaper endorsements from the Sacramento Bee and San Francisco Chronicle in early May, alongside ballot mailing starting early this month, heighten focus on voter turnout in North Bay wine country and rural areas before the May 18 registration deadline; no public polling has surfaced in the past 30 days.
