Republican incumbent Jeff Hurd holds a clear edge in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District race, backed by the seat’s R+5 Partisan Voter Index and his comfortable June primary victory over challenger Ron Hanks. The vast rural Western Slope district, encompassing Grand Junction and Pueblo, has not elected a Democrat since 2011, and nonpartisan ratings classify it as Likely Republican. A late-July poll sponsored by Democratic nominee Dwayne Romero showed the race nearly tied at 46-45 percent, yet Hurd’s incumbency, fundraising, and alignment with regional priorities on water, energy, and agriculture continue to anchor trader expectations ahead of the November 3 general election. Democrats would require unusually high turnout or a sharp national shift to overcome the structural lean.
