Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on May 12 that preparations for President Vladimir Putin's official visit to China are in their final stages, with dates to be announced jointly with Beijing, fueling trader consensus at 89.5% for Yes by May 31. This follows Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's April 15 statement affirming the trip in the first half of 2026, building on President Xi Jinping's February invitation during their videoconference pledging deeper strategic partnership on energy, trade, and security amid the Ukraine conflict. Reports suggest a late-May window, potentially the week of May 18, shortly after U.S. President Trump's May 13-15 Beijing summit. Odds reflect strong diplomatic momentum, though late-breaking health, security, or escalation risks could disrupt plans.
