Brazil’s central bank cut the Selic rate by 25 basis points to 14.00% at its August 5 Copom meeting, marking the fourth consecutive quarter-point reduction amid moderating economic activity, a cooling yet resilient labor market, and headline inflation easing while remaining above the 3% target. Recent mid-month IPCA readings and waning external price pressures have reinforced expectations for continued gradual easing, with 2026 inflation forecasts holding near 5.0-5.1% and the policy horizon projection stable at 3.2%. Market-implied odds heavily favor another 25-basis-point cut in September because incoming data align with the data-dependent stance and limited forward guidance, while risks of a pause, larger moves, or hikes stay low given core trends and global uncertainties. The September 14-15 decision serves as the key near-term catalyst.
