Persistent cloud cover, morning thunderstorms, and a northerly wind flow are capping daytime heating across Chicago on September 17, keeping the official high in the mid-70s according to National Weather Service and model guidance. These conditions—combined with high humidity and scattered showers—limit solar insolation and evaporative cooling, narrowing the likely peak between 73–77 °F. Trader consensus clusters on the 74–77 °F bins because ensemble runs show modest spread tied to the precise timing and intensity of lingering rain; lighter precipitation or earlier clearing could push readings toward 76–77 °F, while steadier showers would favor the lower end. Historical September averages near 76 °F provide context, yet the current synoptic setup favors values below that baseline.
