Current ensemble forecasts from the National Weather Service and private models point to a Chicago high temperature on September 18 in the low-to-mid 70s Fahrenheit, with easterly to northeasterly flow and widespread cloud cover limiting surface heating while a weak disturbance adds a slight shower chance. This setup aligns with the closely bunched market probabilities across the 70–75°F bins, where small differences in boundary-layer moisture, timing of any convection, or wind shifts can shift the daily maximum by a degree or two. Recent observations show mid-September temperatures near or slightly below the 1991–2020 climatological average of 75°F, and model consensus remains stable with limited spread through the 48-hour window. Resolution hinges on official Chicago Midway or O’Hare readings, with any late-day clearing or stronger onshore flow representing the main variables that could push the outcome toward the upper or lower edges of the current trader range.
