Montana's 1st congressional district features an open seat after Republican incumbent Ryan Zinke announced his retirement. Republican nominee Aaron Flint, a radio host and Zinke's preferred successor, faces Democrat Sam Forstag, a smokejumper who won a competitive June primary. The district carries a modest Republican lean based on prior election results, including Zinke's 2024 margin, which supports the current trader consensus favoring the Republican Party. A late June poll showed the general election contest essentially tied, highlighting the race's competitiveness amid broader midterm dynamics. Scheduled events through November 3 remain the primary catalysts that could shift positioning.
